I've also read writers lamenting about all the hard work they put in to no avail. Rewards, reads, and claps aren't necessarily predicated on production. Some have experienced burn out trying to write a ridiculous amount of articles a day. From my perspective, I'd like to keep the joy in writing as someone who cares about quality and not evolve into a churning machine for pennies. But then, I was never in it for the money.
